Abstract

The distribution of active safety systems in modern cars is continuously increasing.
Systems like ESP (electronic stability programs), braking assistants, ACC (adaptive cruise
control), emergency brake assistants and others may significantly influence the vehicle
dynamics in an accident. It is important for the accident reconstructionist to be able to
analyse the effect of these systems. For this reason a modular system has been
implemented into PC-Crash, which enables the user of the program to simulate active
systems in a block based manner. This gives the user the flexibility to build and modify
active systems according to the system to model.
In the second part of the paper the results of driving tests with cars having active systems
are compared with the results of the simulation.
